29 / 7 / 2024

The Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO) issued an Annual Report highlighting a year of growth and progress despite economic challenges.

The figures for 2023 are eloquent: 3,689 received applications and a 7% growth in valid patents, 3,787 granted patents, with a 50% increase in patents granted to applicants from Eurasian Patent Convention (EAPC) Contracting States. The Eurasian Industrial Design System saw a 58% increase in applications, expanding to 26 states.

Significant developments include the approval of the EAPO Development Program up to 2028 and the establishment of an Assembly of Eurasian Patent Attorneys to enhance communication with the professional community. Further, the EAPO continued its role as an International Searching Authority under the Patent Cooperation Treaty and expanded its cooperation through agreements with Armenia and Kyrgyzstan.

It is to note that patent owners from countries not part of the EAPC continue to show interest in the Eurasian Patent System. The quantity of valid patents held by entities originating from the United States, United Kingdom, China, and various other countries is on the rise. The International IP Eurasia Conference broadened its scope, focusing on cooperation with India.

As the EAPO approaches its 30th anniversary in 2024, the annual report reflects on the organization’s efficiency and dynamic development. The organization’s progress is bolstered by its member states and shaped by the evolving requirements of inventors and businesses worldwide. This milestone year serves as a testament to the EAPO’s adaptability and its ongoing mission to meet the diverse needs of the global patent community.
