Assembly of Eurasian Patent Attorneys: A Boost for Development

On June 13-14, Minsk, Belarus, hosted the first international scientific and practical conference of the Assembly of Eurasian Patent Attorneys (AEPA). This public organization was established last year to support the professional community. Over 90 participants from seven Eurasian countries attended the AEPA conference.

The conference program included seven presentation sections on important topics related to Eurasian patent legislation, with 26 in-person and online speakers:

  • The Concept of the Eurasian Trademark Protection System: Perspectives for Development
  • Utility Models: Present and Future Harmonization of Legislation within CIS Countries
  • Practical Issues of Patenting Inventions and Examination of Objections in the Eurasian Patent Office
  • Developing Markets of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU): Licensing and Franchising
  • Judicial Practices of EAEU Member States in Intellectual Property
  • Obtaining Legal Protection for Industrial Design in the Eurasian Region
  • Sanction Restrictions Affecting the Activities of Eurasian Patent Attorneys

The AEPA conference was attended by the heads and experts from the Eurasian Patent Office, the National Center for Intellectual Property of Belarus, and the Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (Rospatent). Representatives from the Russian Licensing Society (LES Russia), the Russian branch of the International Organization for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), and the Chamber of Patent Attorneys also attended the conference, hosting round tables as part of the program.

The AEPA conference not only highlighted the critical issues facing patent attorneys in the Eurasian region but also provided a platform for collaboration and innovation. As the assembly continues to grow and evolve, it promises to be a cornerstone for professional development and a catalyst for progress in the Eurasian patent community.

Eurasian Patent Organization's 2023 Annual Report

The Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO) issued an Annual Report highlighting a year of growth and progress despite economic challenges.

The figures for 2023 are eloquent: 3,689 received applications and a 7% growth in valid patents, 3,787 granted patents, with a 50% increase in patents granted to applicants from Eurasian Patent Convention (EAPC) Contracting States. The Eurasian Industrial Design System saw a 58% increase in applications, expanding to 26 states.
